Environmental Site Assessments for a Major Scientific Institution

A world-renown scientific research and engineering group planned to develop an entirely new facility to house both research and administrative activities. The facility would provide laboratory and office space for thousands of workers. The group had narrowed their choices to eight locations in the San Francisco Bay Area and asked ERS to evaluate the environmental conditions at each. This task was large, as all eight sites had been previously developed with a range of industrial, commercial, and residential uses. ERS reviewed hundreds of documents and provided comprehensive histories of the activities, investigations, and remediation efforts that had taken place at each proposed facility site. Where current information was found to be insufficient, ERS completed Phase One Environmental Site Assessments to bring the site information up to current standards. ERS also provided scoping-level cost estimates to complete the remediation of any site that had not received full regulatory closure.
